Rating and Ranking System of the Civil Service Examinations

TIPS to HELP you PASS the Civil Service Examinations

Before the EXAM
  • Review, review and review. Preparation is always the sure way to pass any test. Some people do not need to review for the CSE, perhaps because they are naturally brilliant with English and Math, and they read a lot of current events. But for most--especially the 80% who fail the test--need professional help.
  • Study and Review Materials. Grab a copy or two of any CSE review material available at any local bookstore. Answer and compare. The more you are exposed to different questions and their levels of difficulty, the better for you, of course.
  • Pray. Pray for inner strength and guidance that you may do good in the test.
  • Practice, practice and practice. Majority of the test is Math and English. According to statistics, many Filipino professionals fall below GOOD in their proficiency in these areas. Hence, practice makes perfect.
  • Exercise, exercise and exercise. Exercise makes a healthy mind.
  • Use the internet effectively. The internet is a huge library for CSE materials. Utilize them. Answer a few questions of Math or English everyday. Make sure you take note of what is happening around you especially whithin the last 2 months before the test.
  • Use Android apps Effectively. Im pretty sure you use your android phone to edit pictures, facebook, check in foursquare etc. Now, why not install it with dictionary or other useful app. I do recommend, English-Tagalog app, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, you can search in play store. play.google.com
  • Eat breakfast. If you are planning to be sexier, you don't need to skip meal especially breakfast. Remember, if you will sleep 9pm and wake up 6pm, how long hours would it be? And yet you still skip breakfast? Your body weakens and brain thinking slows. You can eat a balance diet if you are into shape.
  • Eat chocolate instead of Junk Foods. Chocolate(esp. dark chocolate) has been known to boost mind power. Eating chocolates really help to sharpen thinking skills. Not only that, Chocolate is good for the heart and soul, study reports.
  • Drink Coffee. If you are not into drinking coffee, its up to you, just eat chocolate. However, coffee does improves memory and it will speed up reaction time. In a company research, at least 3 times drinking coffee will boost your mood and cognitive function.
  • Ask previous examiners. Good news, i just share you some tips here. And i am willing to give some soft copies if you like. For offline e-book csc reviewer, download here.
  • Beauty Sleep. Don't overdo things like over timing. But i would guess, you sleep late because of internet. right? In other news, those who sleep late at night tend to have a higher IQ than to those who sleep early. Now, you are excused. :D If you have insomnia  drink hot milk, it will relax your body and mind. Also, try to blink more because when you eyes get tired, you will fall asleep. :)
  • Take Vitamins. If you don't like to exercise and eat some balance diet meal, take vitamins from A-Z. sounds familiar?
  • Relax before the day of exam. Dont be desperate, just because the day of exam will take the next, you will study 24 hrs. No! Don't do it, it will slow your thinking skill. And your body becomes tired.
DURING THE TEST
  • Prepare things. Prepare pencils, ball pen, receipts, sharpener, eraser and, of course, yourself. Take a good bath.
  • Relax and stay calm. During the test, relax and stay calm. Presence of mind during the test is very important.
  • Be on time. Exam will start at 8am, so you need to get in your chair. But if you don't know your seat number and room number, be early as 7am to look for the number.
  • Time is Gold. Wear a watch. Mind the time. At ACES, your instructors will tell you how much time you need to spend on each test.
  • Skip hard questions. Guess and shade completely AND neatly as your answers will be scanned by a computer. The computer might get confused, hence, you might lose points.
  • Be happy and enjoy the exam. The Career Service Examination (CSE) is not really difficult...unless you never really listened or did your homework in Math and English when you were still in school.
AFTER the EXAM
  • Be thankful.
  • Be optimistic.
  • Expect less. Yes don't really expect on your hard work, faith, pray and keen study. If you do that, you are debt by your own actions. But if suddenly, make you passed the exams. Jump and celebrate!
  • Relax and enjoy!

Tips and Strategies on How to Pass the Civil Service Examination

Tips and Strategies on How to Pass the Civil Service Examination

Philippine Civil Service Review 2013

Preparations
  • Only 10% pass the test. Eighty percent fail the test. Most of the time, test-takers fail because of at least of three things--they are not mentally & intellectually prepared; they have not prepared by being familiar with test structure and content; they were beaten by time constraints. Therefore, PREPARE!
  • The CSE will take 3 hours. That's 60 mins/hr x 3hrs = 180mins.
  • The Test questionnaire has 180 items, 10-15 free(personal information), 10 blanks. So it makes a total of 160 total items. We calculate total items to the time 180 mins.  Well, its 0.87 min/item, but some items really take time especially on reading comprehension and math problems. You MUST have 3-5mins to answer each question.
  • Career Service Professional and Subprofessional have almost the same scope--English & Filipino: Reading comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, logic, grammar and correct usage, paragraph organization, spelling, analogy. Math: Word problems, interest, percent, sales, linear, algebra, graphs, and general information includes Philippine Constitution, (R.A. 6713) Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, Peace and Human Rights Issues and Concepts, and Environment Management and Protection.
  • The exam will start at 8am.
  • If you are taking on Computer Aided Test, it's more on computer, not on shading.
Now, you have these idea in mind, you need to prepare for the exam. Calculate time when answering these items, and study the scope of the exam.

Sample ENGLISH Questions:
The universe is 15 billion years old, and the geological underpinnings of the earth were formed long before the first sea creatures slithered out of the slime. But it is only in the last 6,000 years or so that men have descended into mines to chop and scratch at the earth's crust. Human history is, as Carl Sagan put it, the equivalent of a few seconds in the 15 billion year life of the planet. What alarms those that keep track of the earth's crust is that since 1950 human beings have managed to consume more minerals than were mined in all previous history, a splurge of a millisecond in geologic time that cannot be long repeated without using up the finite riches of the earth.
Read the following question and select the correct answer. You may answer the question as many times as you'd like.
